Blogpost Series #1 – Rediscovering Hastings Street

I’ve been dying to do this for the longest time! Since we moved in the Burnaby Heights area. Every time I walk the street, I am mesmerized by the shops I see.  I walk almost everyday, doing my grocery, or taking Rianne to the library. But all I do is look at their windows and wonder.  This time, it’ll be different! I am taking that leap, a new journey and I hope that you’ll be with me! 🙂

Hastings Street is quite a long stretch so I am dividing the series into 2 parts.  The Heights in North Burnaby and then East Vancouver.  I am just so excited to know all these local merchants in the neighbourhood.  I can’t wait to meet them all and know their stories.

Hastings Street quite have a stigma to some, especially those who are visiting Vancouver, but personally, I think it’s a gem, rich in history and quite intriguing.  Believe it or not, Ricky and I dated along the streets of Hastings, in the DTES.  We used to do something he called “The Walk of Hope” back then, where he does a tour with someone who wants to volunteer at one of the non-profit organizations helping the DTES called Servants Vancouver. While I was pregnant with Rianne, I helped serve the women at Union Gospel Mission where I met the most artistic women despite their conditions. Hastings Street is a mix of sunny and gloomy but I would like to choose the brighter side and see the potential in everyone.

It’s time to rediscover Hastings Street! And I would love for you to join me in this journey!

Do you have any favourites along Hastings Street? A must see or do?  Let me know! I’d love to feature them in this series.

With love,

Anne
